Teen Volunteer League is an annual summer program for youth ages 14 – 18. For school-year volunteering, join Teen Council online or at a library near you (see below).

What to Expect

Gain skills and experience, make friends and give back to your community!

Meet with other teens to work on engaging community projects, all while building your resume, earning volunteer service hours, receiving training and learning job skills.

Teen Volunteers can expect to receive:

  • At least 15 hours of community service
  • Resume support and job skills training
  • Mentorship from library staff
  • Access to community resources
  • Leadership experience

Teen Volunteers will:

  • Work on engaging community projects
  • Assist in library activities

In-person volunteering hours will vary by location.
Virtual trainings will be held on Wednesday afternoons.

Eligibility

Teens ages 14 – 18 invited to apply!

Some technology and internet access required to send and receive e-mails. Online trainings will happen weekly over Zoom and volunteers will collaborate using free online tools with librarian support.

Teen Councils

In-person teen councils are currently available at the following locations:

  • Eatonville: The last Thursday of the month at 4 p.m.
  • Fife: Second Monday of the month at 4:30 p.m.
  • Graham: First Tuesdays of the month at 4 p.m.
  • Gig Harbor: Second and Fourth Thursday of the month at 4 p.m., starting on Feb 8
  • Milton/Edgewood: Fourth Monday of the month at 4:30 p.m.
  • Summit: First Friday of the month at 4 p.m., starting Friday, Nov. 3
  • South Hill: Every other Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
  • University Place: Second and fourth Thursdays of the month at 4:30 p.m.

This fall we are also offering a virtual teen council, open to all teens ages 13-18 in Pierce County. Virtual Teen Council will meet on Zoom every Wednesday at 3:30 p.m., starting Wednesday, Oct. 4.

What to Expect

Participants in Teen Councils can expect to receive:

  • One hour of volunteer service per meeting attended.
  • Mentorship from library staff.
  • Opportunities to steer library programs and services.
  • Leadership experience.

Participants will:

  • Assist library staff in creating and hosting teen programs.
  • Design book displays.
  • Create social media content for the @PCLTeens Instagram account.
  • Assist in library activities and special projects.
  • Meet new people.
  • Play games.

Eligibility

There is no application process for Teen Council. Teens ages 13-18 are invited to attend.
